It's not 'your' piece if it's drawn directly off of another picture. :( I hope to see you do some of your own work someday soon.

Do you know how many people who draw "original" work use a reference? Plenty of fan art is taken from another picture. If they traced this then I would agree with you.

I actually like this piece. Keep up the good work.

I'm not trying to be a jerk. I understand that many original pieces use reference, I understand that a lot of fanart uses references (obviously), and it's alright. However, the difference here is the ends to which the reference is used. Using a reference to express your own idea is one thing - though a person has always got to inform others that they've used a reference and give credit whenever possible. Using a reference to express your interpretation of another artist's concept (IE, tribute, gift, and fan art) is another thing as well.

However, when you just draw... you know. Exactly what's in the picture, just on a different piece of paper and not as well as the original artist drew it, I don't think it's fair to call it your own piece, your own work, or anything other than "my attempts at being a Xerox machine, which weren't very successful because it doesn't look as nice as the original, please give me a new ink cartridge."

Once again, I'm not attempting to be a jerk. There's nothing wrong with using references. I just don't really think it's a cool thing to think that it's "your own work" when it's very clearly a not-so-great eyeballing of somebody's actual piece.

I understand what you're saying but doesn't everyone have to start somewhere? It doesn't matter how "good" or "bad" you think something may look, this artist may someday surpass the original artist whose work they once imitated. I think this is a good drawing and that AlmightySmurfGod may learn alot from imitating this picture.

And I wasn't trying to start a comic fight or anything. I'm a very peaceful person .
